Entertaining: Easy Appetizers – Hot Crab Horseradish and Havarti Dip
Creamy, cheesy and filled with luscious crabmeat, the hardest part about making this dip is waiting a few minutes to devour it after it emerges hot and golden from your oven. The recipe makes 8 servings theoretically but, you know, people will be elbowing others out of the way to get the lion’s share of the bubbling cauldron.
Although there are quite a few ingredients, it’s still an easy appetizer to pull together!
Here’s what you’ll need:
- 8 ounces cream cheese, room temperature
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
- 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon Creole seasoning
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- Several dashes hot sauce
- Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons diced red bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons diced green bell pepper
- 3 scallions, trimmed and chopped
- 1-1/2 cups shredded Havarti cheese
- 1/2 pound jumbo lump crabmeat, free of shells
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan
Here’s how:
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees.
In a bowl, combine the cream cheese, mayonnaise, sour cream, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire, Creole seasoning, mustard, garlic powder and hot sauce. Beat with an electric mixer until well mixed. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Fold in the bell peppers, scallions, cheese and crabmeat. Transfer the mixture to a shallow baking dish. Sprinkle over the Parmesan and bake until puffed and bubbling, about 35 to 40 minutes. Serve the dip with assorted breads, pita chips or Zesty Garlic Saltines.
